Lung cancer can take up to several years or decades for cancer to fully develop. Lung cancer is responsible for taking around 25 out of 100 lives. Although, a study has been found that beta-carotene a.k.a. vitamin A that is found in yellow and green vegetables that have protective properties toward this cancer. Lung cancer has 4 main types, squamous cell cancer, adenocarcinoma, large cell carcinoma, and small cell carcinoma. The causes, symptoms, and treatments impact peoples daily lives who will and have faced lung cancer. Smoking is the biggest reason why lung cancer is formed. Since the 1950s, it has been known that smoking, particularly cigarette smoking, is by far the most common cause of lung cancer (accounting for over 90 percent of cases) . (Whitehouse and Slevin 1). Direct smoking is not the only way to get lung cancer, second-hand smoke is another way for cancer to form. Second-hand smoke does not have as high of a risk for getting lung cancer, but still has an increased chance of getting cancer. Although, another way of getting a risk is working around uranium and asbestos. The most common symptoms are types of coughing. A way you might tell a person has lung cancer is if they have a cough and it will not get better or go away, even after antibiotics or treatments. Some may only have a cough but coughing up blood is another way of knowing if the patient has lung cancer. Some might also have shortness of breath and chest pain. Weakness and sudden in weight loss is another symptom of lung cancer. Treatment may vary on which kind of lung cancer that may be formed and how aggressive it might be. The first type of treatment, if the cancer has not spread is surgery. Therefore, if the cancer has spread, it is not as effective. In some cases, the cancer has already spread before the patient is diagnosed, making it too late for surgery. The most common types of lung cancer sensitive to radiotherapy and chemotherapy. Chemotherapy has been the treatment most chosen. The chemotherapy has proven to prolong the patient lives. People that are going through lung cancer will be impacted by the causes, symptoms, and treatments. Smoking is a strong factor in why lung cancer happens to form. Chest and breathing-related problems can be a symptom of cancer. Surgery can be an option for lung cancer, although, it will not always be the best way to go if the cancer has already spread. The patient has to be healthy enough for surgery. So many lives today have been affected by lung cancer.
